Sedge Warbler – Dank and Disco Izrael bring the BASS
Sedge Warbler is the brainchild of Dank (Mix n Blend) and Disco Izrael (P.H. Fat), self-described as rising from post-apocalyptic ashes, these two guys combine the influences of robots and vegetables to create bass-driven, krunk-heavy, electronic THUG rap, and they don’t give a FUCK!
If you wonder what they sound like, think Edit merged with Rico Tubbs with an added twist of melodic Cinematic Orchestra, they create full blown electric compositions that will make you hum to the melody, bounce to the drum beat, and sing along, albeit confusedly, to the lyrics!
These guys are a fresh addition to the South African scene, they are new, sound unique, and provide a nice push to the bass-rap stuff that is popping up! With a strong screw-it attitude they don’t care if you like them or not, they just do what they do, and don’t have time for anything otherwise…
Sedge Warbler in a few words or less:
1. Who/ What is Sedge Warbler?
The mythic aberration of science sex, a wondrous lizard with wings, a de-constructed version of what will be cool in the distant future, as for the name, our buddy Simon was telling us about this ugly little brown bird that never makes the same sound twice, and that is sort of what we are, in a what the fuck! I’m too tired to think kind of way.
2. How would you describe your sound to the laymen out there?
Scientific thug rave.
3. Disco, some say that you were conceived in the middle of the TET-offensive, and that you have 12 toes? Are these rumours true?
Well actually I traveled to your time line from the future to try and conceive myself, meaning i have to have sex with my own mother, only thing is, i have done all this before, and am actually my own father, therefore i don’t really exist so fuck off!
4. Dank, what stuff have you been listening to lately, what inspires Sedge Warbler?
Birds, trees, Eprom and midgets
5. Both of you guys are involved in other projects?
a. What are these?
Disco - PH FAT
Dank – Mix N Blend
b. Do these other projects influence the style/ sound of Sedge Warbler, or is this a completely new concept?
In theory the concept was conceived years ago but in the future, so its very much unrelated to our other projects in the current timeline
6. Dank, there are rumours circulating that you are quitting music and becoming a fisherman on Lake Kariba… are these true?
Yes, no, maybe, tomorrow. yesterday, who am I…..?
7. Cape Town is often rated as the holy grail in South African electronic music, is this true, or are there other dudes around SA we should be looking our for?
Electronic music in sa is somewhat defined by what happens in cape town, but that really means nothing, for all we know there’s some electro spawn bass king, living in Pofadder or Witbank.
8. Where in the world would you guys dig to play?
Well thats a shit question, cause we don’t wanna play on earth or the “world” as you called it, we have our sites set on more inter-galactic locales.
9. If you could, would you choose Bear Grylls (host of Ultimate Survivor) as your adopted father?
No, more like David Attenbourough
10. How many licks does it take to get to the bottom of it?
We do not understand this dumb question
