Siggi eggertson is speaking at the Toffie Festival :: Here is all you need to know about him!

The Toffie Popular Culture festival is fast approaching and we’re pretty amped for it. Seeing as it has nearly everything we love here at Dont Party design, music, fashion and nightlife which is pretty much us in a nutshell!

We knew a small bit about Siggi Eggertsson (such as his Gnarls Barkley Cover :: See below) so leading up to the Festival we’re going to be doing a weekly post on a different one of the speakers to help make sure you’re in the know at the festival, and this week is Siggo Eggertsson.

Background Info

Siggi Eggrtsson is an Iceland born Illustrator who now resides in Berlin. He studied graphic design at the Iceland Academy of Arts in Reykjavik. In 2005 he moved to New York to work at the Karlssonwilker design studio followed by a move to Berlin to study in the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee.

His style is unique and pretty fresh in a industry where alot of designers are falling into moulds of mundanity. His work has the feel of a unique patchwork from a strange 8Bit world using geometric shapes and curved lines to create his trademark style, and it works awesomly, and it would appear the world agrees with my humble opinion of him. He’s contributed to publications like Dazed and Confused, The New York Times and Arkitip plus commercial work with H&M, Nike, Coca-Cola, Readymade and Stussy and various music projects.

In 2006 Print magazine selected him as one of 20 brightest design stars under 30 years old.

Sigi Eggertsson - Quilt took 300hrs to make and 10 000 pieces of fabric

His Work

Above is a Quilt he made it for his graduation from art school in 2006, which he believes is his greatest work. See the quote below from his blog for some more info on the piece

“For my graduation I decided to make a patchwork quilt, that would in a collage, assemble objects from my childhood, that both influenced me and were important to me. The quilt is rather big, around 2×2.5 meters, and is put together with over 10.000 pieces of fabric, sewn together with I don’t know how many kilometers of thread. This monster took my quilting lady Jóhanna Viborg, over 300 hours to make.”

There’s no doubt Siggi Egertsson is going to be an awesome speaker to watch at the Toffie Popular Culture Festival and we’re looking forward to seeing what he has to say. Check more of his work out after the jump

Below is a gallery of his work that we found during our research
