Whether you love them or hate them Die Antwoord are taking the world by storm and are all over the interweb (as the Ninja (Waddy Jones would say)). We’re no strangers to Die Antwoord here at Dont Party we’ve featured both their music videos in previous posts (Zef Side Video, Enter the Ninja Video), and when we featured Enter the Ninja it was on 80 000 views, its now approaching 800 000. Well it seems they’ve lived up to Ninja’s own words,’Fuck all of you who said I wouldn’t make it. They said I was a loser, they said I was a no-one, they said I was a fucking psycho, but Look at me now all up in the inter web”. Well he’s definately all up in the interweb, you cant look anywhere without seeing somthing about Die Antwoord.
Their website has reportedly been inundated with millions of hits crashing their server probably something to do with their features on Cobrasnake.com, Boingboing.com and dlisted.com, which is probably responsible for enough traffic to crash most sites. There’s been alot of talk comparing Ninja (Waddy Jones) to Eminem, not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing these days. Fred Durst has been having a field day on Twitter making numerous shout outs to the group (see images below, credit to www.2oceansvibe.com for the Fred Durst Twitter info) Click to follow him on Twitter if he does it for you, or just click to view the tweets
We saw a comment on Facebook saying Die Antwoord are South Africa’s District 9 of music and it would appear so at the moment. Its hard to remember another South African music act that has garnered such international attention, we just hope that they make use of this opportunity, and ride the wave. Hype like this has a way of finding Ninja (Jones) Max Normal TV one of his previous collaborations was also making waves in the underground music scene up until he disbanded it, lets just hope the same thing doesn’t happen here.
