Gazelle’s new VIDEO – Politics and Performance
Gazelle’s new video is represents “public performance art”. This video is aimed at highlighting current injustices facing the continent of Africa.
“In this modern day satire, while the west is giving money as aid to Africa, countless numbers of corrupt African rulers return to the source to exchange the same money for luxury goods.”
An issue that should be close to everyones heart, Gazelle aims to showcase the unjustifiable actions of the men that once called themselves “freedom fighters”, the people that entire nations of sick, meek and impoverished give their vote, hope and trust to to heal the wound that is Africa.
In this continent it becomes cyclic, African leaders fight long and hard to rule, promising change, riches and better lives, and once they get into power they become corrupt (if they were not so in the beginning) and turn their backs on their people for material luxury and expensive cars, causing even more damage than before their rule.
Duing Art Basel 2009 Gazelle staged a public Performance Art Piece that commented on this situation in the hope that the wealthy of the world that visitors the Art Fair had something to think about….
