RJD2: The Colossus.. out now!

So a month or two ago I did a post on RJD2, and his crazy world of synthesizers and freestyle cooking (click here to check out the post). Well the post was a kinda pre-cursor to the release of his latest album: the Colossus. Well it is finally here. In my opinion it is super similar to the Since We Last Spoke LP, except more melancholy, heavy chord based progressions, and a whole lot of D2 on the vocals!?

His deep and permeating use of analogue synthesis can come across quite ’70′s at times, and you can hear the use of the Bladerunner Vangelis is very pronounced and prominent. This album is really rad to chill out to, but the “umph” that was there with Deadringer, maybe this is a bit blasphemous to say, as artists move and mold to their own metronomes, but this album is very much “soundtrack“-esque, where it seems RJ has spent a hell of a lot of time just messing around on his synthesizers, alone in his studio!

It’s cool, but maybe being melancholy from the start to the end of an album can get a bit much?
