All about Jorge Alderete :: Toffie Popular Culture Festival

Jorge Alderete is speaking at the Toffie Festival :: Here is all you need to know about him!

We’ve already covered Siggi Eggertsson [click to view the post] as we cover all the speakers at The Toffie Popular Culture festival leading up to the big weekend. We’ll be covering a new speaker every week so make sure you catch them all so you know whats in store for you at the Festival.

Part 2 of our coverage of the speakers at The Toffie Festival 2010 sees us looking into the works of Argentinian born Illustrator Jorge Alderete, whose brilliantly colorful and character driven illustrations are truly amazing.

Jorge Aldrete is a self proclaimed illustrator. His illustrations are awesome character driven, packed with colour and have a strong Mexican influences. He says he’s strongly influenced by his surroundings the people and cultures he finds himself in often drive his creativity. We loved going through his pages of Gig Posters [see blow] (Some nice similarities to local agency One Horse Town).

He never seems to shy away from character involvement in his designs and does awesome work incorporating interesting characters into his designs. Nearly every design of his, features a brilliantly crafted character as a focal point of the design, we though his work was fresh and awesomely fun and colorful - See below for a little more about his history.

Background Info

Jorge Alderete is an awesome illustrator from Patagonia, Argentina but he currently lives in Mexico. He Studied fine arts at the Universidad Nacional de la plata. He is an illustrator whose work is well known world wide. His work has been published in various specialized antologies such as: Illustration Now (Taschen); Illusive, Pictoplasma, Los Logos, Dos Logos, Latino, Play Loud, (Die Gestalten Verlag); Place (Actar); Tatto Icon 3 (Victionary).

He’s says he’s influenced by trash culture, Mexican wrestler movies and comics, tiki culture, 50′s science fiction movies, wrestling, surf music which help shape the vivid world depicted in his illustrations, animations and comics. His works have been featured by various media outlets in Argentina, Mexico, Spain and others. He has done animations for MTV Latin America as well as MTV Japan, Nickelodeon Latin America as an independent animator. He spent a stint as the animation department coordinator at MTV Latin America. He was also a judge at the MTV Awards 2001 jury, in the animation and awards design area.
