Logorama :: Oscar winning brand madness! [Watch it here]

If you haven’t watched, seen or heard about Logorama, wake up! The short animated film just won an Oscar at the 2010 Oscars and its fucking awesome. Hey well thats my opinion. The animated film threads 2500 logos into a highly entertaining satirical parody of western corporate/consumer culture.

It is set in an alternate-universe Los Angeles, where everything, from cars to people, is represented by corporate logos. Ronald McDonald appears in the film as a psychotic, gun-wielding criminal. The film also pokes fun at Hollywood movies and the traditional plot-lines of disaster and crime movies

It was written and directed by French film collective H5′s François Alaux, Herve de Crecy and Ludovic Houplain. The film was produced by Nicolas Schmerkin. H5 had previously done work for Massive Attack and Roykssop. Amazingly the 16 minute film took them six years to make.

According to co-creator Ludovic Houplain, the major aim of the movie was to be “subversive,” and an “ode to the freedom of expression” (the creators intentionally did not seek permission to use the logos of the companies they featured). Although it may at first appear to be so, Houplain stated that the film was neither anti-corporate, nor anti-globalist. According to Houplain, “We’re trying to speak to people about the world they live in using a kind of language that they’ve digested for 20 years now.

Logorama was created using rotoscoping and the Maya software suite
