Free Poster Boy!

NYC’s notorious ad buster, Poster Boy has just been sentenced to 11 months in the slam after he failed to show up for his court case on May 6th. According to his lawyer, he simply ‘got the dates wrong‘, and showed up the next day to apologize, when he was apprehended and sentenced to spend 11  months in Rikers Island, New York’s largest correctional facility. He has been arrested for malicious damage to property several times in the past, but was still not expected to receive jail time this time, and was thought to be sentenced to 3 years of probation.

Poster Boy is best known for his socially satirical defacing of New York City subway posters. He is usually armed only with a razor blade, and DIY edits mass media print ads to give them new, and often controversial meaning.

We are all for social commentary and street art, and even though it was a pretty dumb move to not show for his trial, we still think 11 months jailtime is a little harsh for such a minor offense.
