An alternative 1977 :: What would you take back?

If you could go back in time what would do? Meet baby Jesus? See if dinosaurs skin was really green? Chat to the guys who were about to construct the incomplete Cape Town bridge and suggest that it might be a bad idea?

Well for Alex Varanese the answer would be to take back technology of today, apply it to the technology of the ‘then’ and sit back and laugh as you make Steve Jobs and Bill Gates’ combined bankroll look like a piggy bank.

In this series of fictitious product design advertisements Varanese takes back four products of today and makes them four products of yesterday.

“I’ve explored that idea in this series by re-imagining four common products from 2010 as if they were designed in 1977: an mp3 player, a laptop, a mobile phone and a handheld video game system. I then created a series of fictitious but stylistically accurate print ads to market them, as well as a handful of abstract posters (you know, just for funsies).” – Varanese
