American Slang!

Never been a fan of the state, but these guys from New Brunswick have shown me that there is more to New Jersey than those retards from MTV’s ‘Jersey Shore’. Check out Gaslight Anthem’s new music video ‘American Slang’ from their latest album with the same name..

Brian Fallon, lead singer for Gaslight Anthem drew his inspiration as a singer, songwriter listening to ‘Miles Davis and Cool’ growing up and this evident in their latest album ‘American Slang’. Now, you who are familiar with their previous success ’59 sound’ who know that he refers to Miles Davis basically every second song somewhere in the lyrics which makes me wonder….does he not notice that he brings them up in just under half the songs on his albums? Or does he just  really admire and appreciate their jazz funk, rock n roll movement of the 1950′s…I tend to lean to the latter as I believe he understands what people like Miles did for music as well as fueling his (Fallon) passion to become a musician.

Those of you who know Gaslight Anthem and  ’59 sound’ also know how awesome it is and ‘American Slang’ I gotta say is up there too. I was a bit skeptical at first but by the 3rd time I listened to the album I was hooked. What I love about the album is that I can put it on track 1 and listen to track 10 without even thinking of skipping and the music they play is perfect for all occasions, whether it be on a road trip, at a party or just chlling…

The only reservation I have is that the songs are short and the album in less than half and hour long. You can listen to the album on one round trip from Sea Point to Canal Walk and back which may lead to listener ‘killing’ the album a bit sooner than he/she would like. But with a gem like this, I doubt it..

‘American Slang’ the track is not my favourite on the album but its a good tune none the less so enjoy!
