Black Coffee :: BLK Box

Morning y’all

Happy phuza Thursday and all that! The weather is amazing and Theophilus London is setting just the right tone for my day, starting to look forward to summer after all. Anyway I wanted to share a little something with you guys. My beautiful and super talented friends photographer Brett Rubin and stylist Nicole Van Heerden have been working together with renowned local fashion label Black Coffee to bring us a pretty amazing project. They put me onto the Cape Town leg of this journey so I want to share it with you kids first.

B L K B O X is a collaborative project concept initiated by South African fashion design studio BLACK COFFEE represented by Jacques van der Watt and Danica Lepen. The project explores new collaborations and modes of expanding the reach of fashion beyond the fleeting platform of the catwalk. Through the fashion design team they hope to inspire a more active participation by the public in their collections. The project consists of a series of themed travelling installations the first of which is called B L K b o o k. This centers around a new fashion range which explores the book as medium, as metaphor and as tactile experience. Inspired by the beauty of the printed page and the printing and binding techniques involved in bookmaking. The installation engages fashion as a medium through which to expand literacy, be it literal, visual or emotional. This includes winter fashion, a new menswear range, lasercut satchels, bookish accesories and a hand-made editioned concept book.

This will be open to the public from 1 August @ MUTI GALLERY 3 Vredehoek Avenue, Oranjezicht. However they will be showcasing for a limited period of one week. This is Black Coffee’s first foray into the Cape Town market with the launch of their latest retail installation concept. The installation will be open for retail every day from 10:00 – 5:00 with the Black Coffee team in residence to host the public.

This is definately something worth seeing if you’re one for visual journeys.
