The first time I saw El Gordo play he packed out Mercury live. It was one of the first BRICK CITY events and from there on he literally just plowed through the scene. He has played at nearly every one of the better clubs and festivals since then and done nothing but grow in more ways than one. El Gordo is the type of DJ that can play at a funeral service and still rip that shit up! He has the ability to play any slot, anywhere. El Gordo has the unique skill of adjusting his sound appropriately without selling out his sound, which is no mean feat, especially in a scene where every Tom, Dick and Asshole wants to play bangers all the time. I at times can even be guilty of this I must admit. There is no doubt in my mind that El Gordo has played a prominent part in the growth of the South Africa’s electronic scene and promises to still do so.

Often though when you want to grow your passion, moving around and changing your scenery is the best way to do it. Especially in a country like South Africa where subcultures are niche and you can only go so far in it before you start idling. For these reasons El Gordo has chosen to further his music career overseas and I’m both happy and sad about the move. Happy that Gordon has chosen to go full throttle with his passion but fucking bummed I cant be there with him while it happens, I’ve learnt a hell of a lot being El Gordo’s manager the last few years and I am extremely thankful for that. I wish Gordon the best for the future and so does everyone here at Dont Party. We all know you will do us proud over there.
