Surfing ‘The Seven Ghosts’ Indonesia

The Seven Ghosts has been a rumour in the world of pro surfers for a few years now, but no one really knew if the chocolate coloured tubes existed in real life. Rip Curl, the surf brand that stands for ‘the search’ (for the world’s perfect wave), recently sent a team to deep Sumatra, Indonesia to find out.
The Seven Ghosts is a tidal bore, meaning it is a river in which the tide is brought in by a series of big waves. Apparently The Seven Ghosts has claimed many lives in the past, and has been known to eat up land like a tsunami. Rip Curl sent pro surfers, Bruno Santos (BRA), Dean Brady (AUS), Tyler Larronde (FRA), Oney Anwar (IND) and 3 times world champ Tom Curren (USA), to tame this beast of nature.
On their escapades, they encountered 12 foot crocs, loads of torrential debris and even lost a boat to the wave. But despite all the challenges, some managed to ride a single wave for up to 35 minutes. Check out the mystic beauty that is The Seven Ghosts below to find out why people are saying these are the best river bore waves in the world.
