Dalton Ghetti is a 49 year old Brazillian scultpure (now residing in the US) that simply amazes me. His artwork is not on wood, marble or clay but on lead; the end of a normal pencil. His works are detailed and specific and all he needs for these is a pencil, a razor blade, a sewing needle and a sculpture knife.

“At school I would carve a friend’s name into the wood of a pencil and then give it to them as a present. Later, when I got into sculpture, I would make these huge pieces from things like wood, but decided I wanted to challenge myself by trying to make things as small as possible. I experimented sculpting with different materials, such as chalk, but one day I had an eureka moment and decided to carve into the graphite of a pencil” – Ghetti

Pilot Pens, through Grey Agency in Spain, have come up with a very cool way of advertising the girth of their fine pen range and it involves heavily tattooed Lego men!

In time where the likes of Miami Ink seems to be a series to watch and where facial tattooing is no longer reserved for Maori’s or ex-con’s what better way to push forward the ability of the pen in an applicable and current way!

So get your Lego sets out from the back of your childhood cupboard and make them plastic dudes not to be messed with!

Felix Thorn is a 24 year old music visionary. Born and bred in the U.K. Felix’s musical fascination began at the tender age of 7 through studying piano. His lack of interest in reading formal music lead to an obsession with Jazz improvisation which dictated a path of musical experimentation that has now become a mechanical, synasthesiastic amalgamation of sound, motion and technology.

“Felix’s Machines are music making sculptures. They were constructed in his bedroom and exist to facilitate music by translating rhythmic audio structures into a three-dimensional visual show.” – felixmachines.com

“Although my medium focuses on the development of acoustic sounds, I am continually inspired by electronic music – the countless abstractions act as blueprints for the construction of its acoustic counterparts. His creations are dreamlike interpretations of electronic sound. Seemingly extracted from a Baroque-meets-Minority Report era, the machines create full electronica tracks through the use of industrial construction.

“When connected to a computer, Felix’s Machines translate Thorn’s compositions into mechanical actions performed by customised drums and piano parts and animated by solenoids, springs and motors. In this way, an electronic means of production is transposed into an acoustic output. Each element of the machine has its own light emitting diode (LED). In the darkened space of the gallery, this creates an arrangement of coloured projections illuminating the sound source and synchronised with the music.” – gasworks

Breakfast, as we are told  numerous health and consumer magazines, is the most important meal of the day. Well over in Japan they are trying to re-hash this point by installing fruit vending machines!…. FRUIT!

This update to the vending market is an attempt to get younger people, who live by themselves, to eat a more healthy breakfast option…

BUT apparently it is taboo to eat in public so these new recruits to the health market must scurry away and eat their bananas behind closed doors!!!!

ANOTHER CRAZY JAPANESE VENDING MACHINE

It seems that people over in Japan have all kinds of vending machines up their sleeves. Here they present us with some eco-friendly vending machines, aimed at saving the environment!

This first one uses solar panels to reduce its carbon footprint.

This second one not only uses solar panels, but during winter it grows moss on its side!

13th Street is Germany’s number 1 Crime and Thriller channel. Packed with murdering morbidity these guys have a tightly knitted channel… and their design is just as gruesome as the stories that they cover!

Jacques Pense put together really nice pieces of interactive stationary for the channel that superbly represents 13th Street in its entirety.

If you could go back in time what would do? Meet baby Jesus? See if dinosaurs skin was really green? Chat to the guys who were about to construct the incomplete Cape Town bridge and suggest that it might be a bad idea?

Well for Alex Varanese the answer would be to take back technology of today, apply it to the technology of the ‘then’ and sit back and laugh as you make Steve Jobs and Bill Gates’ combined bankroll look like a piggy bank.

In this series of fictitious product design advertisements Varanese takes back four products of today and makes them four products of yesterday.

“I’ve explored that idea in this series by re-imagining four common products from 2010 as if they were designed in 1977: an mp3 player, a laptop, a mobile phone and a handheld video game system. I then created a series of fictitious but stylistically accurate print ads to market them, as well as a handful of abstract posters (you know, just for funsies).” – Varanese
