He closes his eyes and blackness surrounds him.
The noop is all alone. Cast into a harsh wasteland, eroded by a burning struggle. The once perfect ecosystem has been penetrated. A gash remains; a vast bowl of entangled colours and decaying matter. Towers of waste eclipse the hazy twilight glow. Pools of rainbow poisons churn deep below the surface. No life can exist in this forsaken place, hidden away in the desert…hidden, so that they would never find it.

Remaining Mass. A forgotten energy occupies the mountains. Abandoned exoskeletons, jagged spines and wrecked machines rest uneasy. A thousand souls are dumped into the monstrous crater. The invisible watcher endures the pain of another triumphant harvest. If only he could have warned his generation about this evil that they had kept so close to them.

Awakening of Spring. With a spasm, and a surge of bubbles, the embryo thumps the wall of its protective cell, submerged in dense fruity goo. Its pulse sends tiny shockwaves into the surrounding fluid. Cosily caught in a pocket of time, untouchable, oblivious to the destiny that awaits it.

Casting Shadows. Colours flutter, and the air is sweet and crisp. He watches over Gum City as a gentle breeze licks his face. His paw! blimp floats high above him. It reminds him of the lighter days they used to have together, but now a colossal shadow is beginning to hang over all of them. It is fall.

Friends in Pain. His eyes frantically search for a fragment of light. He has lost all sense of direction, a helpless particle falling through a strange dimension. In the same instant, his delicate body is huddled on a hungry beach. Colourless sky, skin and sand drown into the background. Blood streams out of his mouth, forming a muddy puddle below him. Cruel nature has torn two friends apart forever.

Glimpse of Truth. The noop finds himself trapped in a dark and musty room. He looks down over a familiar life force, as it lies restlessly on a mattress. Its misery occupies every inch of the space. Every breath it takes reveals the trauma faced by its defenceless cells. The bandages covering its eyes don’t stop the visions from coming. It sits up with a jolt and faces the noop. “Only you can stop this. Break the cycle and end the suffering forever.”

We have featured the works of coarse on Dont Party before [[see here]], and we had to keep you in the know when they dropped their jaws loser series this morning.

The story behind this rare art toy is as follows:

The noops were conceived in the warm elastomer spring, lost from the beginning. They grew strong in the summer, and then switched to a life of decline, a life that drew towards a painful end, slowly passing into nothing but blackness. This supreme and highly limited figure set marks the beginning and the end of the recurring noop life cycle, closing of the final chapter of the era of jaws. [extract from www.coarselife.com]

Their jaws line is the brand’s longest running and most famous series, yet loser, the final edition brings a real different flavour to party. As a follow up to their jaws pain and false friends release, this strange new duo brings a light and playful edge to the often gloomy world of coarse.

The figure comes in two highly limited versions, includes a 13″ noop figure and his jaws shark visor, embedded in sponge and packaged in a deluxe paper box. Both versions are also available in a miniature keychain, with movable shark head.

We love Vinyl Toys here at Dont Party and we’ve done a couple of posts on them in the past. Its usually Coarse, Kid Robot and others who take center stage when it comes to these ever popular toys. Not this time, have you ever looked at one of those toys and said, “I could make this”. Well  I have, and I tried, and failed, but there is an ever growing number of people who are taking Kid Robots blank “Munny” and creating some artistic masterpieces that definitely give the big wigs a run for their munny (Sorry I had to).

We scoured the net to find you some great examples of guys who have way to much time on their hands and have created some awesome DIY toys, that I think give Kid Robot and co a run for their money.

All the toys shown were made by individuals, using blank Kid Robot Munny vinyl toys and their own ingenuity pretty impressive if you ask me

Indonesian illustrator and graphic painter, Arkiv, has a flair for remixing popular cartoon characters and re-appropriating them with his own menacing twist. He has been crafting these curvaceous designs since ’05, and released his signature vinyl toy, Arkiv Instant, in mid ’09. The initial version was limited to 42 pieces worldwide, one for the heads.

“I’m a half animal and half dream. I’m a blend of an overweight panda and Killer whale. I eat kids and I drink blood. I’m instantly rude and 100% dirty. I sleep longer than any creation the world has ever seen, I sleep like a dead hero and no star. I talk rubbish and my breath smells like it.”

His aesthetic has often been compared to the critically acclaimed pioneer of the art toy realm, Kaws. But due to the ever changing world of art, and seeing as many of his figures are new combinations of classic cartoon elements, it is debatable which works are truly original, and which are ‘original fake’. He has also recently been commissioned by Disney Asia to redesign Mickey Mouse.

This relative newcomer shows a lot of promise, and according to his weblog, he has a number of interesting collabs and exhibitions in store for ’10. Keep your eye[s] peeled.

Now I’m no diehard manga freak, but being The Man in Japan, I do have a soft spot for Asian women, as well as a great appreciation for Japanese character design and illustration. These figurines are all anime characters adapted into physical form. They are the personal collection of Danny Choo, a specialist of Japanese subculture (Otaku), including cosplay fashion, anime, figurines and games. I can only speak myself when I say that these adorable, yet badass girls gave new meaning to the term ‘plastic pervert’.

Self proclaimed as kins to Lou Dorfsman, Roger Excoffon, Savignac, Dondi, Neville Brody and The Designers Republic, 123Klan merges the worlds of grafitti and graphic design through mediums such as toys, logos, character design, branding and fashion to create intense amalgamations of street culture and modern design!…

The release incorporates key coarse characters ‘paw!’, a monkey cross rabbit, and ‘noop’, a human like being, as they portray another episode in the ongoing coarse story. ThreeA toys are all about robots, zombies and dudes with gas masks and that’s why we dig them, a lot. They create some of the most exceptional rusty, dirty worn finishes on their figures, which are made of vinyl plastic. How they do it is a proper headfuck, and their attention to detail is absurd. The company is the brainchild of Tasmanian artist Ashley Wood, who also does the hyper realistic paintings which are an essential part of the brand. They constantly release new pieces, but in limited edition, of course. For all you toy addicts, as well as those who’s vinyl craving hasn’t yet spoken, watch this space. And this one. And this one.
