Ray-Ban recently launched an amazing competition that we just got wind of and it’s got us quite excited! There’s not much time left but we’ve seen designers whip out some amazing work in shorter and we know you’ve got what it takes to get this done! Details after the jump!

The Lowdown!

This Summer, Ray-Ban – the world’s leading eyewear brand – is releasing a limited edition compilation disc including original music from some of South Africa’s most influential bands and artists. Ray-Ban and music have always evolved together – icons in music have a long history of making Ray-Ban eyewear a part of their identity, and in turn Ray-Ban’s have become a musical icon in their own right. Who can forget the way that Bob Dylan wore his classic Wayfarers whilst telling the world that ‘times are a-changing’. Still today, musicians of all genres choose to see the world through Ray-Ban lenses, and share the spotlight with them.
To celebrate the strong association between Ray-Ban and South African musicians, Ray-Ban is reaching out to all local creatives asking them to design the cover for this compilation: the ‘NEVER HIDE Playlist’. The most original submission for the competition will be displayed in over 400 retail outlets nationwide, and end up in the hands of anyone who buys a pair of Ray-Ban’s between the 15th of October 2011 and the end of November 2011. The winner, and his/her friends, will also be entitled to “party-like-a-rockstar” with all the compilations’ featured musicians at the invite-only launch event.

Guidelines

Submissions must include a pair of Ray-Ban’s (think laterally!), and the copy ‘NEVER HIDE Playlist’ must be displayed. The rest is up to the designer. All entries need to be in the form of a 15cm x15cm 300 dpi JPEG or PDF file (file-size must not exceed 3MB) and must be sent to Ray-Ban@Luxottica.co.za. For the duration of the competition, the best submissions will be posted on Facebook and the winner will be announced by Friday 16 September 2011.

I dont know if I’d ever wear them… they aren’t really my style but I was a massive fan of the films as a kid and the shoes are being auctioned off for a great cause. Check out the teaser videos above for more info.

It was an ordinary evening at Lone Pine Mall. All Kevin Durant wanted was a new pair of shoes. Then the space-time continuum showed up.

Bill Hader, Christopher Lloyd, Tinker Hatfield, Donald Fullilove and KD star in a film about the most famous shoes never made, in an effort to support the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.

I just stumbled across this on my usual daily internet search and at first I wasn’t going to post it, until I realised the video was actually shot at LED Festival – Deadmau5 in the Park. I had the pleasure of attending the festival on our recent European trip, Anthea who’s been documenting her travels on Dont Party was also in attendance [Red more on her travels here.]

Watching Deadmau5 live is certainly a memorable experience and he’s undoubtedly established himself as one of the largest if not the largest electronic acts in the world so it’s not surprise he’s joining forces with major brands such as Puma. The new line was developed by the two and consists of both apparel and footwear, the line looks to release exclusively through select Foot Locker locations on August 1, 2011.

So as with most things we’ll probably never see it here in SA..

There are a couple of things that make me feel good when I watch this video; firstly I can rest easy knowing that even the big web video companies like Dazed Digital can have sound nightmares every now and again and Secondly it’s great to see some young South African creatives getting international attention. The video was even featured on Hypebeast and a couple of other major sites.

“Dazed had a South Africa special for their June 2010 issue and one of their reporters spent an ‘afternoon in downtown Johannesburg with four young designers from Soweto, a DIY fashion “crew” called the Smarteez. Kepi, Sibu. Floyd and Thabo took me to some of the fabric shops and clothes stores where they source the raw materials they adapt and combine into their vibrant, outlandish creations.

Walking through the city, they explained how they feel their generation differs from the preceding one. Too young to really remember the struggle for apartheid, they’re less politicised and claim that their “struggle” is now one against blandness and conformity – to them, it’s all about partying, self-expression and challenging stereotypes.”

The ad titled the “Great Escape” features a self indulgent Richardson and Kate Moss robbing a Paris MANGO fashion store in Terry Richardson masks, I don’t really get it…

Check out this beautifully shot video featuring members of the Olympic Team GB (Great Britain) for adidas by Stella McCartney. The video shows some of the new items in the adidas by Stella McCartney collection, which is being worn in different situations by the athletes. The shots are pretty amazing, check it out!

Check out the new short video by award-winning film/graphic art duo from South Africa, Porteus Xandau (Director) and Lucas Van Vuuren (Art Director), and coordinated by Irfaan Fredericks (producer). The video showcases one of Dont Party’s favourite brands at the moment Feiyue. It’s nice to see the French brand connecting with the South African market, using the uniquely South African gumboot dance as a means to showcase the Feiyue Lo classic canvas sneaker.

So all the confusion is finally over and it’s been confirmed that the track featured in the Adidas spot above is in fact the new single by Justice. The video which is the latest of many recently released by Adidas features two minutes of the group’s new single “Civilization”. We had suspected this would be the case after seeing the same 20 seconds of the track used in both the Adidas promo and the Ed Banger Justice promo for the new album, I guess we called it right!

Well this is a first, a pretty cool commercial from Puma. We post quite a bit of Adidas and Nike related content here at Dont Party, but Puma seems to never really send us much info so they’ve never really been featured on the pages of Dont Party. Luckily I stumbled across this ad on a few sites and thought it was pretty unique. It features the four members of “the world’s fastest band” Rocker, Flex, And and Groove all hailing from Jamaica who along with Usain Bolt introduce us to the new Faas running shoes.

Ahoy friends

Hopefully none of you are stuck in a shopping mall today, it’s a week before Christmas and things are starting to get ugly out there! If you’re looking for a bit of fun and a way to stay outa big tourist traps I’ve got the answer for you.

They’ll also be showcasing the new 2Bop Summer range and you get to hang out with some nice kids too. Anyway it’s a Super Street Fighter IV and OG Street Fighter tournament. There will be 8 bit and 16 bit consoles, it’s a casual play all day. Nice beats and nice drinks all lazy afternoon.
