MID WEEK MIX V39 :: LG FRITZ [DANSVILLE MIX]

There is a word Afrikaans speaking people use called “SOUTIE”. A “Soutie” is basically an Englishman that has one foot in Her Majesties rose garden and the other foot in South Africa. The Englishman stretches so far to achieve this that he is forced to dangle his balls in the salty sea making them “salty” hence “Soutie.”

I remember back in college the owner of DANSVILLE used to refer to me as a “Soutie” as if it was my birth name. It took me years to figure out that he was talking about my balls all this time… so he basically called me by my balls for over 3 years. I also heard the other day that in the Afrikaans band circles they refer to electronic parties as “Soutie Sokkies” and that is pretty fucking funny [for those who may not know Sokkie Sokkie is a dance style developed and enjoyed by Afikaans people]

You may be wondering, why am I bringing this up? Well this weeks MID.WEEK.MIX for the last of the DANSVILLE series is by LG FRITZ who just so happens to be from England! Cool dude, great mix of music and I guess he has salty balls. What more could you ask for? For the month of July we have something special for our readers. We asked Dansville to put together some MID WEEK MIXs for us. What is Dansville you ask? Well deep in the northern suburbs of Cape Town is a crew of Afrikaans guys who got together 2 years ago and created a monthly electronic event. It was an immediate hit in an area that lacked good electronic music. It has grown into a complete MONSTER since then and seriously is a next level crowd to play to. Fueled by double brandy and cokes and a hunger for quality music people literally loose their KAK! If you ever in the north and a DANSVILLE is on GO! Its an experience in itself and there is no most certainly no sokkie sokkie going down.

Spoonerism have stepped up to do the first mini mix for the DANSVILLE crew. Electro at its most electroness!

MID WEEK MIX V36 :: NISKERONE [IT CAME FROM THE JUNGLE TOUR MIX]

This week’s MID.WEEK.MIX sees the Drum n Bass heavyweight Niskerone take centre stage. We have been hassling this man to grace our MID.WEEK.MIX collection from day one and finally the day has come thanks to Redbull studios.

I first met Mark Stevens a few years ago when he used to work at Mr.Pickwicks and rocked what I like to call a semi fro. I worked at the skate store next to the sandwich bar on Long street. I remember him clearly handing me a flyer one day with a baby rocking headphones and saying to me “Come to our party”, followed by hustling a pair of shoes off us at an unheard of discount. A lot has changed since then. The sandwiches and milkshakes at the restaurant deteriorated along with Long street, the fro morphed into the most unique dreadlocks I have ever seen and Niskerone is now at the pinnacle of the DnB scene. He has residencies nationally and even plays abroad once a year in Spain.

There are not many DJs like Niskerone. His track selections are flawless, he has an energy on stage that is unbeatable and his skill as a DJ is next to none I’ve seen. There is a memory I have of Mark when I booked him for a party at the old Bang Bang Club. I walked upstairs and saw a group of known South African DJs (mainly house music) and they were standing there in silence, jaws dropped and just fixated on what Mark was doing behind the decks. Its a reaction I have never seen from these types, literally drooling over the balcony as he made 3 cdjays do things they were not even designed to do. I have stories for days of festivals and events he absolutely blew away but this is a post and not an emotional novel. I say emotional because I’ve seen tears on the dance floor at some of the festivals during a Niskerone set. Ive also seen 17 year olds screaming his name at Justin Beiber groupie aggression. His pen has graced many a boob.

This mix marks the end to this months 5th birthday collaboration for IT CAME FROM THE JUNGLE. There are no comments from the man himself in this post. We gonna let his mix do the bantering.
