Ruth Bayer captures the lifespan of an alkyl nitrate (poppers) high through a series of documentary style photos.

Fascinated by the watery, dilated eyes and sensually heightened faces of those she saw taking Poppers in nightclubs, Ruth set out to capture those fleeting moments of euphoric aware/unawareness in the series of photographs presented in this book.” Ruth Bayer

Poppers is a muscle relaxant that when you sniff it causes the dilation of blood vessels, leading to increased blood flow and a rush of heat and euphoria, mainly available in sex shops, this liquid to gas inhalant induces brief moments of euphoria normally followed by a prolonged headache!

The photo-book seeks to document all the motives and motions of a poppers high and the reactions that come from it. From a series of interlinked photos Ruth Bayer uses ordinary portrait shots to document each and every single little twitch or movement

So often in our day to day grind do we walk past true art on the side of buildings and roads. The art form of graffiti has been around for so long and taken so many forms that many of the people that viewed it as the antechrist of urbanism have changed their tune.

As much as graffiti is a part, albeit subtly, of our lives as the ‘youth’ of today, so to are arcade games. Whether you grew up on Nintendo 64 or have played nothing but X-Box the link and impact of these devices in our lives is undenialble.

These two formats have been merged by modern day art and culture enthusiasts who have transformed street art from merely wall throw-ups and have brought back the platform of the classic arcade game to modernity.

Deluxfluxx is the name. A gallery just opened in New York, a continuation of the London exhibit, merges Street art and the classic arcade machine in perfect unison! Pure joy for any fan of either platform.

Tim Burton, the new president of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival, is better known for his quirky, off-centre, creatively enriched films. Starting his career off in the world of Disney as an apprentice in 1979 after studying animation and film-making at the California institute of Arts, Burton got his big-break through “Frankenweenie“, his 1984 short-film about a boy re-animating his dog which led to his first full-feature “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure“; about an eccentric boy-man who treks around the U.S. in search of his bike that was stolen.

From then on it seems like Burton has become the key-name for films with a tad more creative depth than the usual rom-com. We all know Edward Scissorhands, the film that Johnny Depp has single handedly attributed to saving his career, and the 1989 Batman that took perception of what made a Hollywood hit and threw it on its head.

Since then we have seen Burton’s unbound mind being explored and expressed through cult classics and off-beat genres in films such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Mars Attacks!, Sleepy Hollow and Sweeney Todd.

Recently Burton’s success had been rewarded with a retrospective of his work by way of an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This honour has been to bestowed to the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Jackson Pollock and Picasso.

His battle with normality, or should I say uncomfortability with the concept, has allowed his left-field style to emerge into one of the most revered and successful forms of film-making in the modern age; proving this is Alice In Wonderland’s opening weekend success receiving a comfortable $116.3 million on its opening weekend, smashing past Avatar’s success.

I love Burton’s work, I just wish that the exhibition would come here!
